Here are some pics describing the area, the buildings, things discovered, and the process.
Phase 1: Demolition
These are the existing garages before September 11, 2004.
The rear garage will be demolished.
In its place will be an all new 4-car garage.
It will be 24' by 45' long.
All concrete will be excavated and replaced.
This was what was in the rear garage at one time.
Lot's of "stuff" was all over.
Even the spiral staircase will be removed.
There will be a door between garages,
This corner will have an exit door.
The post was planned to be removed, but the plans changed.
Look what I found in the attic of the rear garage!
It's my very own pet cat!
See this stump?
Gone!
Now I have to dispose of the huge pile of sawdust.
The garages have been emptied of junk. Little remains.
On September 3rd, the dumpster arrived.
This is the fourth dumpster since we moved in.
The "other" door was opened up.
Keith and I removed the old wooden fence behind the garage.
Oh, look! Another cat (and a fish).
Now I can see the neighbor's cars.
On September 8th, the culvert was put in.
It will eventually become the end of a circular drive.
Everything is ready for demolition.
Nothing important remains inside the old garage.
You can see the section we "kicked out" while we were waiting.
September 11th, 11AM, the crew gets started.
They will do a "top-down" demoliion method.
Within 2 hours, progress is evident.
They went to lunch so I managed to get some good pictures.
This pile of debris will get much bigger.
Here's a view from the attic of the front garage.
Eventually, there will be no roof left.
It's like the worlds largest skylight.
Here's a shot from the roof.
Awww. Someone broke my window!
2.5 hours after beginning, the roof is almost down.
The dust was chokingly thick.
They are using a blower to displace the dust.
A view from inside shows the light coming in.
This staircase will be disassembled and placed in the dumpster.
The second floor is almost gone.
Obviously, this kind of work does nothing for one's stomach.
4PM: two walls remain.
can you picture a new four-car in its place?
This structure was a mess and needed to be demo'd.
The rest will be down shortly.
15 minutes later, no more walls.
All that is left is cleanup.
This pile won't fit in my dumpster.
The workers cleaned up all the debris.
It took longer to clean up than to knock it down.
And now it is gone.
The dumpster is filled to the brim.
What didn't fit, must wait for a new dumpster on Monday.
Here's a view back out the old garage.
This is what the new garage will be attached to.
